If I've heard it once, I've heard it a thousand times from a new recruit...
"I don't want to talk to people I know about this business until I make some money at it. After I'm successful, then I'll go back and approach my friends, family and warm market because then I'll have credibility with them."
This sounds good in theory, but it doesn't hold water in the real world. Here's why: When someone is unwilling to approach people they know about their MLM, what they are really saying is they are not sure if it will work for them. They have yet to develop the confidence in themselves, in network marketing, in their sponsorship line, and in their company to overcome all the objections and "ridicule" they imagine they'll hear from their friends, family and colleagues.
So, the fantasy goes:
"I'll place an ad, recruit 20 or 30 people this month and sponsor the people I really care about next month."
Thinking they lack credibility (and not having anyone willing to reveal the secret of how to create instant credibility with anyone at anytime) they figure the solution is to recruit people they don't know and who don't know them.
But here's the harsh reality:
Sponsoring people you do NOT know is 100 times (if not 1,000 times) harder than sponsoring someone you already have a relationship with. Moreover, if a person lacks the confidence to approach people they already know, the chances are slim to none they will have success winning over complete strangers.
Now, that doesn't mean cold market recruiting doesn't work.
It does work.
There are people who make millions in MLM by cold market recruiting. But there's a deeper issue than if it works or not. I don't know about you, but the reason I'm in network marketing is for the RESIDUAL income... to do the work once and get paid on it for the rest of my life! If that's your goal too, you've got to go beyond what " works" and look to see (based on actual results) if it really duplicates.
If you want money for life in MLM, two major things are needed: 1) A simple system ANYONE (regardless of experience or background) can use to achieve success; and 2) Strong bonding relationships with the people in the organization (a cure for "The Revolving Door Syndrome," which is where people jump ship 30, 60, or 90 days after they join for next hype deal that comes along).
It takes a very special kind of person who can effectively run an ad and consistently sponsor people off it. Very few people can do it... only about 5% of the world... making real duplication impossible.
Right off the bat, 95% of all the people will fail because the system is not TRULY duplicatable contrary to the "smoke and mirrors" that would have you believe differently. You see, the theory is, everyone chips in for the advertising costs involved and the one or two key people with the talent do the recruiting for everyone. And that supposedly makes the system duplicatable.
But, look closely at these networks and usually only 2 or 3 people make the big bucks, while everyone else makes little or nothing because they can't work the system for themselves. The entire success or failure of that group rises and falls on 2 people.
And that's the exact opposite of the chief benefit of MLM... instead of having lots and lots of people each doing a little bit, 1 or 2 people do it all. This is a losing proposition for everyone, including the big money earners.
Why?
Because they will NEVER work themselves out of a job and, therefore, never receive a true residual income in network marketing. They'll make good money at it as long as they keep recruiting. But, when they personally stop, so does the money! That's not MLM, it's just a commission sales job, where you trade hours for dollars.
Besides the problem of duplication, it's much harder to establish a trusting relationship with someone from an ad who doesn't know you. Which, therefore, makes sponsoring, retaining, and empowering distributors much more difficult and take much longer.
Getting a complete stranger to give you money and believe that you will make good on the promises you make is a long expensive process. And, signing them up is the easy part... the hard part is keeping them from quitting and getting them to go to work.
In this day and age, with all the hype and garbage out there, especially when it comes to MLM, people are naturally guarded. People are more skeptical today. They are tired of getting taken advantage of, which means trust is valuable commodity. Put your energy into your warm market. You already have trust established. They know you.
Remember, your cold market is someone else's warm market. And they already have trust built with them and will be able to influence them into NOT joining your network, a lot easier than you will be able to convince them TO join.
If you want to quantum leap the growth of your network... START with your friends, family and colleagues.
Whatever you're missing (belief, credibility, enthusiasm, a story, knowledge, etc.)... borrow it from someone in your upline.
Rely on the expertise of your upline leader. That's what they are there for. Borrow their success until you have your own!
Put your upline to work for you. Have them do three way calls, conference calls, video conferences, home meetings, or whatever else is necessary to get your business up and running.
